Dear FSTV Changemaker,

I’m writing today with a small request that could help save our country. Really. Please give one minute right now to take the short Civil Resistance Survey organized by our badass partners at the Women’s March.

Why am I so passionate about this survey? You may have heard of the “3.5% rule.”

Historical research by scholars at Harvard (yes, that Harvard) shows that mobilizing even 3.5% of a population in sustained, nonviolent resistance can successfully bring down an authoritarian regime. That level of active opposition typically signals an even greater level of public discontent, which further emboldens social justice movements.

Here’s the thing: How we show up is less important than the simple act of just showing up. And the Civil Resistance Survey allows the Women’s March to connect you with opportunities to mobilize in ways that are right for you.

The short survey asks you simply to identify one or more types of action you are ready to take with our beloved community.

Here are the five options you can choose from:

• Organize: Host a rapid-response action in my city or town (protests, rallies, community meetings) 

• Show up: Join direct actions (peaceful, high-visibility demonstrations) 

• Mobilize: Travel to key states to support on-the-ground organizing 

• Resist: Engage in noncompliance with unjust policies and mandates 

• Support remotely: Phone banking, digital organizing, fundraising

That’s it. Easy peasy. One minute, and you’re in.
