On Rising Up With Sonali, an urgent appeal went out to Secretary Pete Buttigieg and the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) to address chronic highway flooding in Elba, Alabama’s historically Black Shiloh community, before the clock runs out on the Biden Administration. The devastation, caused by the reckless design and expansion of US 84 highway, left the Shiloh community vulnerable to flooding, property damage, and loss of generational wealth. Despite years of advocacy and on-site tours with USDOT officials, the Elba community still awaits a full resolution.

Democracy Now! reported that on Saturday, Israel killed over 200 Palestinians in Gaza, including 40 members of a single family, raising the official death toll to over 44,000—a number experts say is likely a vast undercount. Among those killed are medical and aid workers, including Mahmoud Almadhoun, co-founder of the Gaza Soup Kitchen, which provided food to Palestinians suffering under Israel’s blockade. Almadhoun, a father of seven, was killed in a drone strike. His brother, Hani Almadhoun, calls this a targeted assassination meant to stifle aid efforts. In this segment, Hani Almadhoun joined Democracy Now! to share his brother’s story and discuss the devastating humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. “This is a war against civilians,” he says.

Gay USA reported that Donald Trump’s potential appointment of a gay Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, has raised eyebrows as an attempt to present inclusivity.  Trump’s gesture stands in stark contrast to his previously reported plan to fire over 15,000 transgender service members..– a troubling rollback of LGBTQ+ rights that prioritizes discriminatory policies over genuine progress. Critics also argue it’s a smokescreen to distract from a broader agenda of empowering individuals with extremist views into powerful government positions.

FSTV’s Winter Pledge Drive

This week we kick off our very last pledge drive of the year.

As we head into 2025, FSTV is prepared to question those in power, demand justice, and resist all forms of oppression – even as non-profits and news outlets that challenge the incoming administration’s policies face retribution and existential threats in the New Year.

FSTV stands strong because of supporters like you—proving that people-powered media can rise above anti-democratic attacks and outlast fear-driven corporate greed.

Winter Pledge Drive runs from December 2 to December 13, offering a perfect opportunity to make your impact before the year ends.

Thanks to our Winter Frontline Funders, we’ll feature two special Match Days—Friday, December 6, and Friday, December 13—doubling the power of your support!
