Last weekend, USAID’s website and social media were taken offline, and top security officials were placed on leave for resisting Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk accused USAID of being a “viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists,” instructing staff to stay away from headquarters. But former USAID senior official Jeremy Konyndyk warns that these attacks are based on false claims, stressing that the agency’s work saves lives every single day. Even hospitals in blue states, once seen as safe havens for trans healthcare, are folding under political pressure, shutting down gender-affirming care for minors and leaving vulnerable youth without critical medical support.
