Randi Rhodes On The State Of The Union. The Detainment of Columbia University's Gaza Encampment Leader. Nationwide Protests Against Donald Trump and Elon Musk. FSTV’s Spring Pledge Drive!

March 12, 2025
Donald Trump's State of the Union had his usual hallmarks: lies, blaming Joe Biden, and bragging about himself and the administration. He had Representative Al Green thrown out, despite the fact that Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert have repeatedly heckled past Democratic presidents without consequence. His speech was filled with fearmongering and attacks, painting a bleak picture of America under Biden while conveniently ignoring his own disastrous record.
Typically, after listening to Donald Trump speak, Randi wants to take a shower. After that speech, she wanted to boil herself in Pine-Sol®.
Donald Trump’s administration is ramping up its crackdown on pro-Palestinian activism. Immigration agents with the Department of Homeland Security have detained Mahmoud Khalil, a leader of the Gaza solidarity encampment at Columbia University. Khalil, an Algerian citizen of Palestinian descent and a green card holder, is married to a U.S. citizen whose due date is just weeks away. Immigration officials claim his green card is being revoked, but no clear justification has been given. His whereabouts remain unknown. This comes days after Trump’s Federal Task Force to Combat Antisemitism announced it would strip Columbia of $400 million in federal funding, despite the university’s own efforts to suppress pro-Palestine activism. Critics argue this isn’t about combating antisemitism—it’s about crushing dissent.
Demonstrations have erupted across the country in response to Trump and Musk’s latest actions, with thousands rallying against authoritarian policies and corporate influence in government. From "No Kings Day" protests on Presidents' Day to targeted actions at Tesla dealerships, activists are making their voices heard. Internationally, demonstrations have also spread, highlighting concerns over Musk’s political influence. As public dissent grows, the movement continues to challenge the consolidation of power among elites.
